In Zoeterwoude, the Netherlands, Heineken has opened a brand-new global research and development center. The ceremonial opening was attended by Dutch King Willem-Alexander, further underlining the importance of this project. With an investment of 45 million euros, Heineken makes it clear that it intends to continue leading the way in the world of beer.
The center is named the Dr. H.P. Heineken Centre, honoring Henry Pierre Heineken, who was behind many innovations in the last century. Covering an area of 8,800 m², it is a place where tradition meets modern science. The facilities include state-of-the-art laboratories, sensory research departments, and packaging development units.
The main goal is to create new legendary beers and beverages that respond to today’s trends. Consumers are increasingly seeking natural ingredients, new flavors, and more frequently, non-alcoholic options. This is where the next generation of Heineken® 0.0, a new premium lager, or entirely new beverages for different occasions could be born.
“Innovation has been at the heart of Heineken since its founding. This center is another step in our story, one that will shape the future of the entire beer industry,” said CEO Dolf van den Brink.
The new center is strategically located near Delft University of Technology and directly next to the largest brewery in Europe. This creates a strong link between academic research, modern science, and long-standing brewing expertise.
Once again, Heineken demonstrates that its strength lies not only in tradition but also in its determination to explore new paths. It is here that new chapters will be written in a story that began in 1864 and continues to shape beer culture worldwide.
